5 Useful Apps for New University Students
Congratulations! Results day has been and gone, and many of you are looking forward to starting your University course in the next month or two. University undoubtedly will be one of the most memorable experiences of your life. You’ll form close friendships with fellow students, attend lectures and indulge in student life. This can be an exciting albeit daunting time, so a little help can go a long way. Check out five of the most useful apps for students from the App Store that will help you prepare for your time at University.
Not used to cooking? Not to worry, plenty of students are in the same boat! Leaving behind your mum’s cooking for a bit of home cooking of your own on campus may seem a little daunting at first, but apps such as Big Oven make cooking easy...and fun too! Free to download ‘Big Oven’ contains a whopping 350,000 easy to follow recipes. Choose from one of the recipes on offer, or select your pre-existing ingredients in your kitchen to bring up a selection of meals that use your choice of foods.
Keep track of classes and other events with the Class Timetable app from Ice Media Creative. Compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, the app has recently been updated to include Apple Watch integration, allowing you to keep track of your upcoming lectures and other important reminders without having to get out your phone or tablet.
Prevent exhausting your student loan too early by using the Daily Budget app. This free to download app allows you to keep track of all of your regular spending and income to encourage saving whilst staying in the positive on your account. As a History graduate myself, I know how easy it was to slip into poverty (student nights out can be pretty expensive when they were a regular occurrence!), so Daily Budget is a really handy app to download.
Flashcards are an excellent way of retaining information whilst revising for an exam. This app allows you to create your own custom flashcards, adding notes and images to help you remember important facts. It’s also much more convenient than taking around a wad of notecards on your travels. With the Flashcards+ app, you can revise anytime, anywhere with all of your revision in one place-your Apple device.
Another thing that’s great about being a student other than the independence, new friends and social life is the student discounts! This is why downloading the NUS Extra app is a good idea. This app shows you all the shops and restaurants near your location that accept the NUS Extra card for a handy discount. So next time you fancy a cheaper meal or reduced cinema ticket for example, load up the app and check where abouts you can nab a saving!
Downloading some handy apps is an excellent way to be prepared for your new University experience, and these are only a small selection of from the range. Search ‘Student’ on the App store to browse even more!
