Plants vs Zombies Heroes
In recent years, Plants vs. Zombies has become a hugely successful franchise. Starting with their tower defence game, Plants vs. Zombies went on to spawn a tower defence sequel, as well as an online multiplayer third-person shooter. Now, EA and Popcap present Plants vs. Zombies Heroes.
Similar in style to Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, Plants vs. Zombies Heroes is a collectable card game that takes the characters from this popular franchise, and transports them into a brand new format. Players take on the role of a Plant or Zombie hero, utilising hundred of cards to progress.
Free to download with in-app purchases such as extra cards, the game includes a main Campaign mode which comprises of 80 adventures and 400 levels. After the popularity of their third-person shooter titles, Garden Warfare 1 and 2, the company has embraced online multiplayer. In this mode, you'll be able to be compete against friends or strangers online in ranked or unranked multiplayer matches.
Once you've chosen your player, you'll need to place the cards in your deck out on the strips of grass. Opposing players will appear on the opposite side to attack. They'll vary in strength, different attacks and styles, so this is where you'll need to be a bit tactful. Choose the right cards to take down the rows of zombies or plants, and strengthen your team to take down the opposing teams leader. The player that manages to whittle down the opponents health to zero first is the winner!
Whilst it's easy to compare this to Hearthstone, Plants vs. Zombies Heroes still successfully manages to add enough of their own material in to keep this different. It's also got a fantastic art style, combining the superhero/comic book theme with vibrant colours, fun animations and a catchy The Incredibles-style soundtrack. Another bonus is that unlike a lot of free to play games, Heroes doesn't shove their optional purchasable items in your face. Unless you actually head to the store section, you won't need to buy any additional items in order to continue playing this game. In-app purchases can be pretty expensive as you become addicted to a game, so this is probably a wise touch on Popcap's part.
Plants vs. Zombies Heroes is an incredibly fun, addictive and easy to follow game. Whilst the later levels get a little tricky, thankfully the fun remains. It's also enjoyable, colourful and excellent addition to the already popular Plants vs Zombies series.
The game is available to download for free on the iOS App Store now.
