Apple Event, 9th September: What We Know
The Apple Event tonight was jam-packed with the latest information and releases from the company. From new and improved Apps and features for the Apple Watch, the new version of the Apple TV, a brand new iPad and the full details for the latest models of the iPhone, there was plenty to look forward to in the coming months. Here’s what to expect from Apple. Please note that at the time of writing, UK pricing for each product has not been confirmed.
The Apple Watch will be getting some new App support as well as brand new straps in various colour combinations.
The Apple Watch Apps discussed were:
-Good for monitoring health, e.g. babies heart rate between the doctor and patient, as well as overall pregnancy care.
-Users can control their Go Pro directly from their watch.
-Users will be able to receive and respond to messages from the Watch screen.
-Speak into the watch to translate speech to other languages.
New models and bands are available as of now, including the custom Hermes watch with leather bands and the (project)RED watch strap. New colours are also now available, such as vibrant hues and neutral tones that you can mix and match for multiple colour combinations (for example, rose gold).
Apple has created their most “capable and powerful iPad” yet. The iPad Pro contains the biggest screen they have ever built in an i0S device yet, with much more power and a beautiful display. Here’s all of the features confirmed during the event:
-Larger screen, measuring at 12.9 inches.
-5.6 million pixels display. Even more than 15” macbook pro with retina display.
-A9X chip 4rd generation 64 bit chip.
-Faster than 90% of portable PCs.
-1.8x desktop class CPU.
-10 hour battery life.
-8mp iSight camera.
-4 speaker audio system-balances to make beautiful stereo sound stage.
-Support from Microsoft and Adobe across their iPad supported products such as Office and Photoshop.
-3D4Medical-Perfect for doctors, this shows 3D models of the human body that can be operated in real time.
New accessories will also be released in conjunction with the iPad Pro:
Smart Keyboard-Will be clipped onto the iPad Pro to use instead of the touch screen keyboard. The Smart Keyboard will work accordingly with different apps, and respond to sensitivities.
Apple Pencil - can be used simultaneously with fingers on screen. This is particularly good for artists who can draw on screen in the newly re-designed Notes app.
The iPad Pro is available in Space Gray, gold and silver, and will be available in November.
iPad Mini 4
The iPad Mini 4 was also announced. This tablet promises to be powerful but small and light, encompassing everything the iPad Air 2 features.
The Apple TV is getting a new redesign in October. This smart box will feature popular apps such as Netflix along with App support, games and iTunes integration.
-New user experience.
-Works with Siri.
-Weather and sports scores on TV whilst watching programmes and films.
-Apple TV exclusive games included such as Crossy Road.
-Available in 32GB and 64GB sizes.
Apple announced that the iPhone 6 is the “most popular phone ever”, selling well worldwide. This is why they are happy to announce an expansion of this popular phone with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
-Entirely new aluminum, custom Apple alloy.
-Available in silver, gold, space gray, rose gold colours.
-Brand new stronger glass, strongest in industry.
-3D touch - “Peek and Pop”. Shortcuts to things you do frequently. Press slightly to “peek” at content, whilst pressing harder “pop’s” into the content itself.
-A9 great graphics, M9 motion coprocessor embedded and always on (e.g. for fitness and it also helps for ‘hey siri feature’).
-2nd generation Touch ID - 2x faster when recognising fingerprints.
-12MP iSight camera - all new, 50% more pixels than before.
-Autofocus accuracy has improved.
-Live photos can now have sound.
-5MP facetime camera.
-Retina Flash — the entire display can light up 3X brighter than usual as the flash for the front-facing camera.
-New cases available.
